JDM NZ

Hey guys! my name is Ash, I'm the only owner and creator of JDM New Zealand.
I originally got into cars thanks to my Dad (Adam), growing up I was surrounded by JDM cars on my Dads side... My Grandma and Grandad owned many Skylines in their time.
I remember my Grandad telling me there was a point back in the day where there were traffic officers instead of the police who would hand out fines for offences, the traffic officers and police had some conflict between the transition of the NZ police taking over their job so there wasn't anyone monitoring the roads for about 18 months.
My Grandad told me during this time he owned a factory turbo manual R32 GTS-T, funnily enough he saw it as an opportunity to be abit cheeky, he said he would finish work at 5am
and max out his speedo on the onramp heading home. He would also take trips to Tauranga going about 140 the whole way from Auckland. He also managed to convince  my Grandma to get an r34 too.
The first Skyline my family owned was my Dads, he worked and saved hard in his teens and got an R31 GTS coupe. They both owned many different Skylines, Like Son like Father?
Anyway lets fast forward abit to when I was born,
Growing up my dad owned many different turbo R32's, Grandma and Grandad both had R34's... Dad took me to all the Fast & Furious movies in one of his many R32's,
I think it would have been just a little bit weird if I grew up and didn't love cars, especially Nissan's right?
Fast forward again to when I turned 16, my first car was a Honda Civic EG that was an absolute piece of shit that I LOVED, at 17 I sold the Civdog and got a NA MX5. It was super fun and was my first "decent" car, I worked and saved hard then got myself a SSIII Beams Celica as an inbetween daily to buy my next car. I think a few weeks later I managed to score myself a super clean S14 PFL Silvia then sold the Celica. That S14 was my first taste of an amazing Nissan and I couldn't get enough of it, my Dad was constantly on my case asking when I was gonna get a Skyline though. I owned that S14 for about 2 years, seeing the prices of factory turbo manual Nissans increasing like crazy I set a goal to own a R32 before I turned 21, I worked insanely hard then sold the S14, got a daily and a few months later I drove down to Tauranga and picked up my Factory Turbo Manual Coupe R32 GTS-T Type M with 120xxx that was imported from Japan in 2017. My dad had no idea and I drove that car straight to his house in Auckland after picking it up to surprise him, this car was so original and mint that it still had the factory speakers in it that were obviously blown from the age, I couldn't care any less though. About 2 and a half hours of pure happiness listening to that RB scream and turbo spool through the backroads with the windows down  on a sunny day all the way to my dads with the biggest smile most cheesiest smile you had ever seen on my face.
Since having me so young he had to sell his cars and did the responsible thing and got a house, he was out of the car game thanks to me lol... I drove down his driveway and I swear he was more stoked than I was, his first son now owns a sick R32 like he did. Like father like son?
Since owning the R32 I haven't really done much to it, I unfortunately broke the original gearbox which I wasn't too surprised about being an almost 30 year old car but managed to sort a freshly rebuilt gearbox within a week of the original breaking thanks to mates.
I've been working hard and saving alot of money to build it up, I've already got a few parts but waiting to put them all on at once when I have everything
(don't worry im keeping all the original parts I take off haha)

JDM NZ started when I got my S14 and really wanted to meet like-minded people because I didn't really know many people as I moved up from the South Island a few years before then, I wanted to make some mates who were also into cars. Unfortunately I couldn't find any meets so funnily enough decided to make my own called "JDM Car Meet - One Tree Hill (Auckland, NZ)" on the 30th June in 2018 - https://fb.me/e/253y2CZwi,
surprisingly my 18 year old dumb ass had no idea that it would attract almost 4000 people and completely fill up this park on both sides and cause insane traffic.
It absolutely blew my mind so I decided to make JDM NZ out of it, I've now hosted over 15+ meets with thousands of people on each event page. I sorted a design and have since sold about 1000+ stickers to people all around New Zealand.

I started from the bottom and basically did everything myself, I now have 10k+ Likes on Facebook and 17k on Instagram.
All my events have been family friendly and I try my hardest to keep a good relationship with the police here in Auckland, the thing I love about my events is that I try really hard to make sure there isn't any dangerous driving by setting rules to try break the stereotype that anyone with a loud car is a boy racer. Thats why you always see different cars come along to my meets, people of all ages bring out their pride and joy. JDM NZ meets are a place to appreciate one anothers hard work and see some amazing cars that New Zealand has, almost everyone there is super respecctful but I've learnt you cant control peoples actions. All you can do is try your hardest to prevent anything that would give us as a community a bad look from the public. I think thats why so many people support JDM NZ and represent a sticker on their car, It's all about respect. I know so many people who have become mates all because of JDM NZ. I treat every fan/follower just like the first, I try to reply to every message I get and even give out free stickers occasionally. Everything I've done has been non-profit and all money has gone into keeping the website up or buying more stickers for you guys to put on your car!
If you see me around, come say hi!!
I'm not famous, im just some dude with a R32 who hosts car meets :)

Thank you so much for reading!
I love all of you guys so much and appreciate all of your endless support <3
